Before I delve into the fascinating distinctions between the titles of “Queen” and “Empress,” let’s clarify the intent behind this exploration. This discussion is not affiliated with any women’s liberation movement or feminist agenda. Instead, it’s about embracing a mindset that sees possibilities and opportunities as limitless, transcending traditional boundaries.
So don’t get it twisted, my sista and brotha, I am in NO means stating that I do not need a man. I welcome a male companion so that we can build an empire together, where we own multiple businesses and feed off of one another. In my book, Two Strangers with One Heartbeat, I explore the idea that when you enter a relationship, there are initially two heartbeats.
Once you become one, and you lay your ear against his chest, and your heartbeats are in sync, your empire is formed.
Yes, I digress even before getting into the post, but this needed to be said. In a test read before posting, there was a bit of misunderstanding among one reader’s perception of the post. This drove me to write this PSA.
Sometimes, people will look only at the surface and never really dig deep into the initial statement. We as people have layers; we’re not one-dimensional.
We invite you to look beyond the surface, to explore not just the historical and cultural significances of these titles, but also their implications for personal growth and self-realization. This is about mindset, empowerment, and the majestic potential that resides within each of us.
In addressing the distinction between the titles “Queen” and “Empress,” it’s important to understand their historical and cultural significance, which can illuminate why someone might prefer one title over the other.
Queen:
A Queen is typically the female ruler of an independent state, especially one who inherits the position by right of birth. Queens can also be queens consort (married to a king but not ruling in their own right) or queens regnant (ruling in their own right). The term emphasizes dignity and royalty but is often seen within the framework of a single country or kingdom.
Empress:
An Empress, on the other hand, usually refers to the female sovereign or monarch of an empire, which encompasses multiple territories or nations under a single supreme authority. This title not only carries the connotations of royalty found in a queen but also extends them to suggest greater power and wider dominion. An Empress may also signify someone who has greater autonomy and authority than a queen, particularly in historical contexts where empires were more expansive and powerful than individual kingdoms.
Preference for “Empress” over “Queen”:
Choosing “Empress” over “Queen” could signify a preference for a title that implies not just royalty but expansive power and influence. An empress’s authority historically extends over diverse peoples and cultures, suggesting a leadership that is not just royal but also commanding and encompassing. For those who see themselves not just as leaders within a confined scope but as influential figures with a broad impact, “Empress” can be a more fitting and empowering title.

This preference reflects not only a desire for a broader scope of recognition but also an assertion of a higher level of leadership and impact, aligning more with a vision of oneself as a person of significant influence and authority.
Throughout my life, I have never seen myself confined within the limited boundaries of a single realm; my influence and impact stretch far beyond. This is why I resonate with the title of “Empress” rather than “Queen.” An Empress rules an empire, a vast expanse that encompasses diverse lands and peoples, mirroring how I view my life and my influence.
I am not just surviving; I am thriving and leading. I have faced down adversity not once, but twice, staring into the unknown and emerging stronger each time. My life is not a simple narrative confined to one place or one role; it is an expansive saga of resilience, leadership, and empowerment. As an influencer and a muse, I have uplifted others, helping them navigate their darkest hours and reminding them of their innate power. My words and actions have helped people pay their bills, persevere through their struggles, and embrace their potential.
Though my journey has had its solo moments, and I cherish my independence, I remain open to companionship. I acknowledge and welcome the possibility of a partner, not out of necessity but from a place of strength and readiness for a union that complements my path. I understand the regal partnership of a king and queen ruling their personal domain together. Yet, for me—an Empress in my own right—my sovereignty extends beyond a shared throne. It is a domain uniquely mine, yet profoundly connected to the world around me.
For those in a partnership, the titles of King and Queen beautifully symbolize their shared reign over their life’s kingdom. But for me, a woman of extensive influence and vision, the title of Empress captures the essence of my spirit and the breadth of my impact. This title encapsulates my journey and my role as a leader not confined to one realm but spanning the vast empire of human experience.
As I continue on my path, I feel the universe conspiring to bring me closer to a partnership that aligns with my imperial destiny. I remain patient and open, knowing that what awaits around the corner is nothing short of majestic.
